'Contextual' covers work where I am concerned with a particular issue; it is relevant to the world we now live in.
My husband, Alan Docherty, works hard in various trades union and political arenas to raise awareness of important issues and to put pressure on our politicians. I don't expect to change the world, but I do want to use my art to draw attention to such issues as global warming and the horrors of war. My work reflects much of what I am feeling and I am despondent and outraged by the wars in Iraq, by the way politicians ignore public opinion even when it is demonstrating in its millions across the world; by hypocricy and double dealing; by the lack of progress in reducing carbon emissions.
